How to design a bilingual digital menu people can scan
Servd Team · 17 September 2026 · 5 min read

A bilingual menu should feel native in both languages, not like one language was squeezed beneath the other. Keep category order consistent, localize dish names naturally, and explain unfamiliar ingredients instead of transliterating every word.
Make decisions easy
Use short descriptions, show required choices before optional extras, and update the price as modifiers change. Keep sold-out items hidden or clearly unavailable. Test Arabic in right-to-left mode on a small phone: long names, numerals, and mixed-language brand terms often expose layout problems.
Before publishing, ask someone who did not build the menu to order a configurable item in each language. If they need help, the menu still needs work.
